Filtered Internet and OpenDNS

MegaGate now uses OpenDNS for all of our dialup users. This allows our customers to better control their filtering needs, and have the ability to modify individual filtering categories. This is a free service brought to you by MegaGate Broadband and OpenDNS.

Note: You no longer have to dial into a special number for filtering access (Such as 601-450-4500).

To begin using the OpenDNS filtering please complete the following steps:

1. Create an account with OpenDNS -> Account Creation
   1. Enter your MegaGate username (Note: Your username may be taken by another OpenDNS user. Don't panic! Simply choose a different username.)
   2. Enter your MegaGate email address
   3. Enter your password, and then again to confirm
   4. For "How'd you find us?" choose Other, and then type in "MegaGate" in the blank field
   5. Click the "Create Account" button
2. You will receive a confirmation email with a confirmation link you must click before your account can be accessed. Open the email and follow their instructions for confirmation.
3. Log into the OpenDNS Dashboard to add your network connection -> Dashboard Login
   1. Next, click the orange "NETWORKS" tab in the top/middle of the page
   2. Leave your IP address as is, and click the silver button beneath it "ADD THIS NETWORK"
   3. Label your network. Something like "Home" or "Office".
   4. Make sure item #2 is checked. "Yes, it is dynamic".
   5. Click the link on step 3 to download the OpenDNS Updater Software
      1. Choose to Open or Run the download.
      2. Once the file has completed the installer will begin
      3. Follow the steps to complete installing the Updater Software.
      4. The program will start automatically.
      5. Please enter your OpenDNS username and password (Not your MegaGate username and password!)
   6. Go back to your OpenDNS Dashboard and click the silver "DONE" button
   7. You will see a managed network listed with your dynamic MegaGate IP address
   8. Go back to the OpenDNS Updater and click the "Refresh" button
   9. Your computer is now registered with the OpenDNS filtering service. (It will list "Last Result: good" at the bottom right of the pane when you have registered with the service).
4. To modify your filtering settings and limits, please login to the Dashboard first.
   1. Next, click the orange "SETTINGS" tab at the top of the page
   2. Here you can choose from preset filtering categories, or view/modify each category.
   3. You can also add to always block, or never block, individual domains at the bottom of the Settings page
