Phishing Emails
What is phishing?
From wikipedia.com:
"In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."
Please note that MegaGate Broadband employees will never ask for sensitive information over email.
How do I protect myself?
Ask yourself the following questions when looking at suspicious email:
- Is the offer too good to be true?
- Is the email asking for personal information about an account, service, or other online related activity?
- Do you recognize the sender's email address or name?
- Does the email threaten to disable a service if you don't respond?
