Phishing Emails

What is phishing?

From wikipedia.com:

"In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication."

Please note that MegaGate Broadband employees will never ask for sensitive information over email.

How do I protect myself?

Ask yourself the following questions when looking at suspicious email:

  1. Is the offer too good to be true?
  2. Is the email asking for personal information about an account, service, or other online related activity?
  3. Do you recognize the sender's email address or name?
  4. Does the email threaten to disable a service if you don't respond?
